The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has joined key government institutions to review the implementation of Ghana’s National Decentralisation Policy and Strategic Framework for 2026–2030.
Mr Ayariga, together with the leadership and management of the Ministry, participated in a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation aimed at strengthening coordination among government institutions responsible for implementing the framework.
The meeting brought together representatives from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies to assess progress and identify measures to translate the policy framework into more effective public services and responsive development at the community level.
Discussions focused on the need for stronger collaboration among state institutions, meaningful citizen participation and improved accountability to ensure that decentralisation delivers tangible benefits to communities.
The participants also emphasised the importance of providing local structures with the resources and institutional support required to effectively implement government programmes and respond to the needs of citizens.
The Ministry said the priority is now to move beyond policy formulation towards practical implementation and measurable outcomes.
The Ministry concluded that the review forms part of government’s broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s decentralisation system and ensure that decision-making and development are brought closer to citizens.
