The Volta Regional Branch of the Opposition National Democratic Congress NDC is urging victims of flood and any other person who has misplaced his or her voters ID cards to go for replacement when the Electoral Commission of Ghana commences replacement.

In a press statement dated 24th May 2024 and signed by the Volta Regional communications Officer, Sorkpa Kafui Agbleze, the Volta NDC empathizes with the victims of Akosombo spillage Flood victims and urges them to put their predicaments behind them and move on with their normal life .

“Volta Region NDC expresses our deepest sympathies to all citizens affected by the devastating flood disaster caused by spillages from the opening of the floodgates of Akosombo and Kpong Dams in September 2023 by the Volta River Authority (VRA), seriously affecting some 39,000 Ghanaians downstream. We recognize the devastating impact this act has had on lives, properties, and livelihoods across our beloved region”.

“In light of this, we are urging all flood victims who have lost their voter ID cards to actively partake in the processes of having them replaced. The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured that the replacements will be done free of charge for all flood victims. This initiative is crucial to ensure that all eligible voters retain their ability to participate in the December 7 and future electoral processes without hindrance”

“We encourage all affected individuals to visit the nearest EC Offices in their respective districts from 30th May to 14th June 2024 to have their lost voter ID cards replaced. This also applies to those who may want to transfer their votes or apply to vote by proxy”

The statement further assured that Volta NDC will provide all the necessary support in conjunction with EC to make sure that everybody regains his or her voter ID cards ahead of 2024 General election.

“The NDC is committed to supporting this process and will provide any necessary assistance to facilitate a smooth and efficient replacement procedure. Every citizen’s right to vote is fundamental and inalienable, and we stand with them to ensure that this right is preserved despite the challenges posed by the unfortunate flood disaster” the statement stated.

In conclusion, the Volta NDC said it is determined to do the needful in making sure that the ruling New Patriotic Party NPP is booted out of government through democratic process.

“The NDC remains dedicated to advocating for and assisting the people of the Volta Region in every possible way to join in the pursuit of democratically ousting the current clueless, reckless and super-incompetent Nana Addo-Bawumia led NPP government”.
