The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, have expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the ultra-modern Cardiology Centre under construction at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The inspection formed part of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund’s efforts to monitor the implementation of key healthcare infrastructure projects aimed at expanding access to specialist medical services across the country.
Accompanied by a high-powered delegation from the Trust Fund and the management of KATH, the team toured the construction site, where contractors provided an update on the project and assured them that work remains on schedule for completion by the end of August.
Speaking after the inspection, Miss Darko-Opoku commended the contractors for the quality and pace of work, describing the facility as a major investment that will strengthen Ghana’s capacity to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases.
She noted that the centre would help reduce the number of patients who travel abroad for expensive cardiac treatment while improving access to quality specialist healthcare within the country.
The GMTF Administrator reaffirmed the Trust Fund’s commitment to supporting projects that improve healthcare delivery and expressed confidence that the facility would become a leading centre for cardiac care upon completion.
Dr. Amoakohene also praised the progress of the project, describing it as evidence of government’s commitment to expanding healthcare infrastructure and improving specialist services nationwide.
He said the Cardiology Centre would serve not only residents of the Ashanti Region but also patients from other parts of Ghana and neighbouring West African countries.
Management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital assured the delegation that close collaboration with contractors is ongoing to ensure the project is completed and operational by the projected end-of-August deadline.
