The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Johnson Pandit Asiama, has called for careful and evidence-based decision-making as the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) begins its 131st meeting amid global economic uncertainties and rising energy prices.

Opening the meeting on Monday, July 20, 2026, Dr. Asiama said the Committee would assess recent economic developments, including inflation trends, the effects of the Bank’s May policy reforms, domestic liquidity conditions, and external risks facing Ghana’s economy.

He noted that Ghana continues to show signs of macroeconomic resilience but stressed the need for the MPC to remain responsive to changing economic conditions.

“Our task this week is not simply to assess the latest data.

It is to determine whether the framework we strengthened in May remains fit for the conditions now before us, and whether the choices we made then continue to serve the medium-term objectives on which our credibility depends,” the Governor stated.

During the opening session, Dr. Asiama also announced the launch of the inaugural Monetary Policy Committee Educational Observership Programme (MPC-EOP), which will allow students from the University of Ghana to gain firsthand insight into the MPC’s operations.

The initiative forms part of the Bank of Ghana’s efforts to promote transparency, strengthen public engagement, and support the development of future economists and policymakers.

The MPC is expected to deliberate on key economic indicators and announce its policy decision after the conclusion of its meeting.
