The Majority Leader of Parliament, Mr James Agalga, has held discussions with the High Commissioner of Canada to Ghana, H.E. Myriam Montrat, on strengthening diplomatic, trade and development cooperation between the two countries.
The High Commissioner paid a courtesy call on Mr Agalga at Parliament House, where they discussed ways to deepen the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Canada.
In a statement following the meeting, Mr Agalga said the two countries shared more than 100 years of friendship, built on common values and cooperation in areas including trade, education and development.
He described Canada as a trusted development partner and highlighted its contribution of more than US$2.5 billion in development support to Ghana.
He also cited bilateral trade valued at approximately US$752 million and the presence of more than 100,000 Ghanaians living in Canada, describing the Ghanaian community as a living link between the two countries.
Mr Agalga expressed appreciation to the Canadian government for its continued support and reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to strengthening relations between the two nations for the mutual benefit of their citizens.
The meeting forms part of ongoing engagements aimed at sustaining Ghana-Canada relations and exploring opportunities for further cooperation.
