Ghanaian entrepreneur and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has honoured legendary boxer Azumah Nelson with a brand-new Toyota Fortuner and an undisclosed sum of money in recognition of his extraordinary legacy in sports and national development.
The surprise gesture occurred during a courtesy visit by a delegation led by Sharaf Mahama, CEO of Legacy Rise Sports and son of former President John Dramani Mahama, and British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
Azumah Nelson, was visibly moved by the heartfelt gesture, receiving the car keys and a sealed envelope containing the cash gift in the presence of friends, dignitaries, and associates of the host.
A video of the emotional moment has since gone viral on social media.
Describing Azumah as “arguably Africa’s greatest boxer,” Ibrahim Mahama said the presentation was not only a show of appreciation for his historic achievements in the ring but also a recognition of his continuous efforts in mentoring youth and developing sports in Ghana.
The delegation, fresh from participating in the “Battle of the Beasts” boxing event held at the Bukom Boxing Arena on June 13, had earlier paid a courtesy call on President Mahama at the Jubilee House before visiting Mr. Mahama to thank him for his support.
Among those present were sports entrepreneur Yaw Sakyi Afari of RITE Sports, businessman Henry Quarshie from Azumah Nelson’s team, members of Anthony Joshua’s camp, and several executives from Legacy Rise Sports.
Ibrahim Mahama, founder of Engineers & Planners and Dzata Cement Limited, is widely known for his philanthropic initiatives in education, health, sports, and infrastructure development across Ghana.
