The Member of Parliament for Tamale South and Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has honoured the late Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, describing him as a traditional leader whose reign helped strengthen peace and unity in Dagbon.
In a tribute released on Monday, July 13, Mr. Iddrisu said the passing of the Yaa Naa represents a major loss for the kingdom, noting that the late chief played a key role in reconciliation efforts and bringing people together.
He highlighted the former Dagbon leader’s contribution to preserving harmony, stating: “Your Majesty, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, built bridges, inspired reconciliation, and left behind a legacy of peace that will endure for generations.”
The Tamale South MP urged the people of Dagbon to continue protecting the unity achieved during the late Yaa Naa’s leadership and maintain the kingdom’s rotational succession system, which he described as central to sustaining peace.
Mr. Iddrisu added that Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II continued the work of past rulers by strengthening relationships and promoting reconciliation among the people of Dagbon.
