The Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of journalists through closer collaboration with media owners and industry stakeholders.

Speaking at the launch of the 2025 Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards on Thursday, October 9, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the government recognizes the economic difficulties confronting media houses and the resulting impact on practitioners’ livelihoods.

“We do know that the media landscape is also challenged. The operations of various media houses are hindered by financial and economic constraints. We do know that media practitioners complain often about poor remuneration and poor working conditions. Governments will continue to partner media organizations to explore ways of improving these conditions,” he said.

He emphasized that the Mahama administration considers the media a vital partner in national development and remains dedicated to ensuring that journalism remains a viable and respected profession.

The event also featured the inauguration of a nine-member awards committee chaired by Mr. Gabriel Bosompem, a former Commissioner of the National Media Commission and ex-Production Manager at TV3, to vet entries for this year’s GJA Awards, which will recognize excellence in journalism across the country.
