President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed government’s commitment to accelerating development in the Ahafo Region, with plans for a regional hospital, tertiary institution, road projects and job-creation initiatives.
He made the commitment when traditional leaders from the region met with him to discuss Ahafo’s development needs and priorities.
President Mahama said Ahafo was among the six newly created regions being prioritised by government to address infrastructure and social service gaps.
“Ahafo is a very important region, but it’s a new region. Unlike the established regions, it lacks so many amenities, and that is why in this government’s programme, we are fast-tracking the development of the six newly created regions,” he said.
He said several roads in Ahafo had been captured under the Big Push infrastructure programme, while additional projects were expected to be included in its second phase.
On education, the President said the proposed tertiary institution for the region remained on course and would be delivered before the end of his tenure.
“With regards to education, we promised a tertiary institution for Ahafo. It’s on track, and before the end of my term in office, we will deliver a tertiary educational institution,” he pledged.
Ahafo is also expected to receive a regional hospital under government’s plan to provide modern healthcare facilities in the six newly created regions.
President Mahama further announced that buses would be procured through GETFund for schools facing transportation challenges.
Beyond infrastructure, he said government was preparing to intensify its job-creation agenda, particularly for young people, through investments in nine strategic sectors under the 2027 budget.
