The Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation is pursuing the recruitment of 400 scientists to reinforce Ghana’s research institutions as part of efforts to improve scientific innovation, environmental management and technological development.
Speaking during Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s visit to the Ministry on Monday, July 13, Acting Minister Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah disclosed that discussions are underway with the Ministry of Finance to secure the financial clearance needed for the exercise.
He explained that the recruitment is intended to close staffing shortages affecting key research institutions, saying, “The Ministry is currently in talks with the Ministry of Finance for financial clearance to recruit 400 scientists into the scientific and research institutions to address the critical human resource gaps that are undermining the country’s capacity for scientific research, innovation, environmental management and technological development.”
The Acting Minister also announced the establishment of 32 new district offices for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), describing the expansion as part of the agency’s new mandate to improve service delivery across the country.
On climate action, he revealed that Ghana has signed agreements with Singapore, Switzerland, Sweden and South Korea under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, creating opportunities to mobilise financial resources through emissions reduction trading to help meet the country’s climate commitments
