The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has disclosed that the Ministry of Local Government has prepared an Act of Parliament to facilitate the operationalisation of the Akomadan Local Government University.
He said the legislation is expected to be laid before Parliament for consideration and passage, paving the way for the institution to obtain the necessary accreditation and autonomy to commence full operations.
According to Dr. Amoakohene, although the previous administration constructed infrastructure for the university, it failed to enact the legislation required to give the institution the legal backing necessary for it to function.
The Regional Minister disclosed this when he joined the Offinso North District Assembly, led by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Caesar Ofosu Acheampong, to unveil a number of educational projects in the district.
The projects included newly constructed and refurbished legacy school infrastructure aimed at improving the learning environment for students in the district.
Dr. Amoakohene assured Nananom and residents of Akomadan that the university would be opened by the current administration once all the necessary legal and administrative processes had been completed.
He also urged students in the district to complement government’s investment in education by taking their studies seriously and working hard to improve academic performance.

He said the Assembly would leverage the John Mahama-led government’s Legacy Fund initiative to address the infrastructure deficit confronting schools in the district.
According to him, the commissioning of six educational infrastructure projects forms part of several interventions undertaken by the Assembly to improve teaching and learning.
He added that the Assembly would introduce additional measures, including incentives and awards for brilliant students, as part of efforts to motivate learners and improve educational outcomes in Offinso North.
