Ghana resumes egg exports to Burkina Faso following ministerial intervention

The Government of Ghana has secured a major breakthrough in agricultural trade with Burkina Faso following a high-level intervention by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, and the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, during an official visit to Ouagadougou on Friday, 17th July.

The ministerial engagement with the Burkinabe authorities resulted in the lifting of restrictions on the export of Ghanaian eggs to Burkina Faso. In addition, both countries reached an understanding to facilitate the lifting of restrictions on the importation of tomatoes into Ghana.

The intervention by the two ministers underscores the Government’s commitment to removing trade barriers, expanding market access for Ghanaian farmers and agribusinesses, and strengthening economic cooperation with neighbouring countries.

The resumption of egg exports is expected to provide a significant boost to Ghana’s poultry industry by creating a ready market for local producers, while the anticipated reopening of tomato imports will further enhance agricultural trade between the two countries.

The breakthrough marks another milestone in the Government’s efforts to promote regional trade, improve food security, and deepen bilateral relations between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
