Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Edmund Kombat, has called for greater economic ownership by women, stressing that genuine empowerment must translate into wealth creation, entrepreneurship and leadership.
Mr. Kombat made the remarks while speaking at the 10th Anniversary of the Young African Women Congress, organised by Danny Tuffuor and his team under the theme, “Beyond Empowerment: Ownership, Wealth, and Economic Justice for African Women.”
Addressing participants, the TOR Managing Director said empowering women should go beyond providing access and participation, arguing that sustainable development requires women to own assets, build businesses and play leading roles in shaping Africa’s economic future.
He noted that the continent’s transformation would be accelerated when women are equipped with the tools and opportunities to thrive as entrepreneurs, innovators, investors and leaders.
According to him, promoting economic justice for women is essential to unlocking Africa’s full development potential and fostering inclusive growth.
Mr. Kombat also commended the organisers of the Young African Women Congress for a decade of championing women’s empowerment across the continent.
He congratulated founder Danny Tuffuor and the organising team on the milestone anniversary and expressed optimism that the congress would continue to inspire and empower more young African women in the years ahead.
