A political strategist and member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, has criticised the party’s organisers over what he described as an ineffective campaign strategy during the 2024 general elections.
According to Dr. Opoku, while key organisers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including Joseph Yamin, Elikem Kotoko, Justice Yeboah and Malik Basintale, were actively campaigning in rural communities, villages and hinterlands to mobilise support for then-presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama, their counterparts in the NPP were largely focused on organising health walks in regional and capital cities.
He argued that the contrast in campaign approaches contributed significantly to what he described as the NPP’s “most humiliating defeat ever” in the 2024 elections.

Dr. Opoku urged delegates of the NPP to carefully consider the leadership they elect during the party’s internal polls, stressing the need for executives who are capable of building strong grassroots structures and leading effective nationwide campaigns.
He cautioned delegates against choosing leaders whose activities are limited to organising health walks and demonstrations, insisting that the party requires executives who can connect with voters at the grassroots and strengthen its electoral fortunes ahead of future elections.
His comments come as the NPP prepares to elect new national executives as part of efforts to reposition the party following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
