A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Razak Kojo Opoku, has raised questions about the calibre and leadership qualities of candidates seeking election as National Chairman of the party ahead of the national executives election scheduled for October 3, 2026.
In a Facebook statement ahead of the election, Dr Opoku questioned whether delegates were electing a National Chairman capable of serving as the party as ‘Abusuapanin’ and providing the discipline and leadership needed to support the party and its presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
He also questioned whether loyalty to Dr Bawumia should be the primary consideration in selecting a National Chairman, arguing that the occupant of the position must be able to effectively perform the responsibilities of the office.
According to Dr Opoku, an elected National Chairman should be loyal primarily to the NPP rather than become a “blind loyalist” to an elected flagbearer.
“An elected National Chairman has the responsibility to be ONLY LOYAL to the Party, not a blind loyalist to the elected flagbearer.

Dr Opoku also contrasted the communication styles and public conduct of individuals associated with the party.
He cited Kwasi Kwarteng, whom he said did not support Dr Bawumia, as an example of someone whose approach to communication was nevertheless attracting voters to the NPP.
He contrasted this with what he described as the social media behaviour of another individual he referred to as the “Konongo Capo Snoopy”, accusing the person of repeatedly attacking women on social media.
Dr Opoku argued that such conduct could affect the party’s public image and make it less attractive to some voters.
