The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency of the Central Region, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, has called for an immediate cessation of all public commentaries and attacks linked to the recent misunderstanding between himself and the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor.
The two party leaders, who were once close allies, reportedly developed differences over issues that led to tensions within the constituency. The disagreement subsequently spilled into the public domain, with supporters of both sides engaging in verbal exchanges on radio stations and various WhatsApp platforms.
Concerned about the growing divisions, the NDC’s Council of Elders, Regional Executives and National Leadership intervened and called on all parties to work towards peace and reconciliation in order to safeguard the unity of the party.
Following the intervention, Mr. Ofosu Agyare has publicly appealed for calm and urged supporters from all factions to immediately halt all discussions, commentaries and attacks related to the matter.
In a statement issued on the situation, the Constituency Chairman acknowledged the existence of misunderstandings within the party’s leadership but stressed the need to place the collective interest of the NDC above personal differences.
“I would like to state that, with immediate effect, all supporters and sympathizers from every side should refrain from commenting on the matter or engaging in attacks against the Member of Parliament and or any other individual,” he stated.
Mr. Ofosu Agyare further noted that although there may be differing views on the issues involved, preserving the unity and harmony of the party remains paramount.
He expressed confidence that through dialogue, mutual respect and understanding, the differences can be resolved amicably, allowing the party to focus on its broader objectives and responsibilities to the people of Awutu Senya East.
The Chairman’s call for restraint is expected to help ease tensions within the constituency and create an atmosphere conducive to reconciliation, as party stakeholders continue efforts to restore harmony among all parties involved.
Party faithful have been urged to embrace peace, avoid inflammatory remarks and support ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening unity within the NDC in Awutu Senya East.
