Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has engaged academics, researchers and students of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala Campus, as part of ongoing stakeholder consultations on Ghana’s New Economy agenda.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Finance Minister to interact with members of the academic community and exchange ideas on the economic transformation agenda and the measures needed to create sustainable opportunities for young Ghanaians.
Speaking after the engagement, Ato Forson described the interaction as productive and inspiring, stressing the importance of placing job creation at the centre of Ghana’s economic transformation.
He said the New Economy must be capable of generating jobs at scale, particularly decent and productive employment opportunities that would give young people a meaningful stake in the country’s future.
According to him, sustained engagement with academics, researchers and students is critical to shaping policies that respond to the aspirations and challenges of the next generation.
The engagement forms part of broader consultations by the government to gather perspectives from key sectors of society as it pursues its New Economy agenda.
The Finance Minister is expected to continue the engagements at the University of Ghana, where discussions will further focus on Ghana’s economic transformation and the creation of opportunities for young people.
