The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (National Democratic Congress), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has suspended his planned “Thank You Tour” of the North East Region following rising security concerns in parts of northern Ghana.
The decision comes after a recent attack on a military convoy in Bawku and another violent incident in Binduri, which heightened tensions in the area.
A senior member of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) confirmed that the tour was called off after consultations with security authorities, who advised caution.
According to the source, the move was necessary to prevent possible risks to the NDC Chairman, party supporters, and residents.
“Anytime there are disturbances, there are spillover effects. To be safe, we have decided to avoid the trip and focus on finding a lasting solution to these issues,” the source said.
The suspended tour was scheduled to begin on April 29 with visits to Yagaba, Walewale, and Nalerigu, and continue on April 30 to Bunkpurugu, Yunyoo, and Chereponi.
The outreach formed part of Asiedu Nketia s post-election appreciation engagements with party supporters in the region.
