Tensions are brewing within the Greater Accra branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) as Regional Chairman Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore faces accusations of sidelining regional executives and the Council of Elders in the appointment process.

Ashie Moore has come under fire for allegedly bypassing the established consultation process and unilaterally proposing nominees for ministerial and other key government positions. His actions have sparked outrage among regional stakeholders, who claim his decisions undermine the party’s directives on inclusive consultation.

A Chaotic Meeting at Job 600

The controversy came to a head during a meeting held at the 6th floor of Job 600, in the office of the Member of Parliament for Ada, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah. Sources reveal that Comfort Cudjoe-Ghansah, a close ally of Ashie Moore, hosted the meeting to discuss the proposal of nominees.

However, the meeting reportedly turned chaotic after Ashie Moore, in collaboration with Joshua Alabi, refused to disclose the names of individuals they had allegedly shortlisted. This lack of transparency has further fueled suspicions of favoritism and a “one-man show” approach to the appointments.

Alleged Nominees and Favoritism

Credible sources suggest that Ashie Moore plans to submit the names of Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, Joshua Alabi, and Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as ministerial candidates. Additionally, other individuals reportedly favored by him are being considered for CEO and board member roles.

These alleged nominations have angered the Greater Accra Regional Executives and Council of Elders, who argue that Ashie Moore’s actions violate the party’s principles of collective decision-making.

Party Directives Ignored

The National Executives of the NDC had earlier issued a directive requiring all regional branches to engage in broad consultations when proposing nominees for appointments. This directive was emphasized following the dismissal of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) last week.

A source within the NDC’s Adabraka office condemned Ashie Moore’s actions, stating:

“A regional chairman alone cannot take unilateral decisions. All regional executives and the Council of Elders matter in every region. I am confident that when this issue is brought to the attention of the National Functional Executive Committee (FEC), it will be addressed.”

Escalating Tensions

The unfolding situation has deepened divisions within the Greater Accra NDC, with some party members calling for immediate intervention by the National FEC to restore order and ensure adherence to the party’s guidelines.
