Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has embarked on a tour of flood-affected communities in Accra as part of efforts to prevent disease outbreaks in the aftermath of the recent heavy rains.

The Minister, together with officials from the Accra Metropolitan Health Directorate, visited Adawnaa, Achimota and Alogboshie to assess public health risks and educate residents and traders on measures to stay safe after the floods.

Community members were advised to drink clean and safe water, maintain proper personal hygiene, avoid contact with polluted floodwaters, use insecticide-treated mosquito nets and seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms of illnesses such as cholera, diarrhoea, typhoid fever or malaria.

Mr. Akandoh said the government has strengthened its preparedness by supplying health facilities with essential medicines, medical consumables and other logistics needed to respond swiftly to any disease outbreak.

He also announced that public health nurses and community health workers will be deployed to affected areas to intensify health education, improve sanitation and strengthen disease surveillance.

The Ministry of Health has urged residents to keep their surroundings clean, help clear blocked drains and report suspected cases of cholera or other infectious diseases to the nearest health facility as the rainy season continues.
