Africa Centre for Security and Counterterrorism Raises Alarm over Attempts to Bail Cop Killers

Africa Centre for Security and Counterterrorism worries about bail for cop killers
The Africa Centre for Security and Counterterrorism has expressed serious concerns regarding the bail proceedings for suspects accused of the recent shooting and killing of two police officers.
In a statement signed by Mr. Emmanuel Mawanye Kotin, the Executive Director, the Centre highlighted that lawyers for the accused, including the main suspect Mohammed A. Damba, are working swiftly to secure bail for their clients at the next court hearing.
The Centre urged the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice to carefully reconsider any bail applications given the severity of the alleged crimes.
The statement also emphasized the ethnic dynamics of the case, warning against the potential for ethnic tension if the case is mishandled.
“The Attorney-General must rigorously evaluate all bail applications through an impartial lens.
If we allow politics, tribalism, or negligence to hinder justice, we risk reopening deep ethnic wounds from our nation’s past,” the statement read.
The Centre revealed that Damba, who claimed to work at the office of the Vice President, had secured a government-registered bulldozer to demolish a complainant’s wall prior to the deadly incident.
This raises serious questions about how he obtained the bulldozer and was initially granted bail by the East Legon Police for the murder charges.
The Africa Centre for Security and Counterterrorism is appealing to the Inspector-General of Police to urgently launch an independent probe into potential misconduct by the East Legon police personnel before, during, and after the murders.
The slain officers, G/Const Benjamin Kojo Tindam and G/L/CPL Tasigya Issac Ngyapun, deserve justice from the police service they dutifully served.
“Otherwise,” the Centre stated, “it would appear that the service has betrayed its own.”
The Centre believes that a thorough, unbiased inquiry is necessary to uncover the full truth behind these tragic events.
