Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has rejected a report suggesting that he has been summoned ahead of the reconvening of Parliament.
Mr Afenyo-Markin described the report as misinformation and called on the media outlet responsible to withdraw the publication and correct the record.
In a statement shared on social media, the Minority Leader said the situation was the opposite of what had been reported.
“Stop the misinformation! Stop the misinformation! Stop the misinformation!” he said.
According to Mr Afenyo-Markin, he had not been summoned but had himself summoned members of the Minority Caucus for a meeting ahead of Parliament’s return.
He explained that the meeting was part of the Caucus’ routine preparations before every parliamentary sitting, aimed at strategising and coordinating the Caucus’ business in Parliament.
“On the contrary, ahead of the reconvening of Parliament, I have summoned my colleagues for our Caucus meeting, as is routinely done ahead of every Meeting of Parliament, to strategise and coordinate our parliamentary business,” he stated.
Mr Afenyo-Markin stressed that the meeting was a regular practice of the Caucus and should not be portrayed as a summons against him.
“This is a regular practice of the Caucus and should not be misrepresented as anything else,” he added.
He subsequently called on the myjoyonline.com to remove the report from its website and issue a correction.
“Pull down the misinformation on your website and correct the record,” he demanded.
