A Volta River Aviation helicopter, with registration number 9G-AFW, made an emergency landing on Monday morning, August 11, 2025, at Ampekrom, near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The aircraft, a Jet A-1 model carrying four occupants — including some foreign nationals — was on a flight from Accra to Kumasi when the pilot was forced to land due to poor visibility caused by harsh weather conditions.
Authorities confirmed that the pilot and all onboard were unharmed.
The latest occurrence comes just days after the nation was shaken by the August 6 military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent government officials: Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong.
The rest were former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
