President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate cancellation of fuel allowances and allocations for all political appointees, as part of renewed efforts to curb government spending and redirect public funds to priority sectors.
The directive was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, by the President’s spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
According to the statement, the move takes effect immediately and reflects the President’s commitment to ensuring that leadership shares in the sacrifices required to reset the economy.
“The directive forms part of a broader curb in government expenditure aimed at cutting cost and channeling public funds into priority areas,” the statement noted.
President Mahama’s latest action follows previous expenditure-reduction measures, including a significant downsizing of ministerial appointments and staff at the Presidency, as well as the cancellation of satellite television subscriptions for government offices.
“The President believes that leadership must also bear its part of the sacrifices it is calling on the people to make,” Kwakye Ofosu emphasized.
The announcement underscores the administration’s broader “Resetting Ghana Agenda,” which seeks to promote efficiency, accountability, and prudent management of national resources.
