Minister for Communications, Samuel Nartey George, has announced the increment of data bundle value effective July 1, 2025, with increases ranging between 10% and 15%.
The announcement comes in response to growing public concern—especially among the youth—over high data costs and limited value for money.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, June 10, the Minister revealed that the decision followed extensive engagements with telecom companies aimed at improving data value while balancing operational sustainability.
According to the Minister, the new structure includes a 10% increase in all data bundles for AirtelTigo and Telecel, and a 15% increase for MTN.
However, these price hikes will come with significantly enhanced data volumes across the networks.
The announcement is particularly significant for MTN customers, who experienced a similar 15% price hike in November 2023, which the company attributed to rising operational costs.
Mr. George acknowledged the financial strain these changes might place on network providers but expressed confidence in the outcome of the consultations.
He said, “I am pleased to announce that my engagement with the CEOs have resulted in the following specific measures which will have effective from Tuesday July 01. Airtel/Tigo, a 10% increase in all data bundles currently offered by the network. Additionally the 400 cedis bundle which currently offers 195gb of data will now offer 236gb of data. Telecel, also a 10% increase in all data bundles currently offered by the network. Their 400 cedis data which currently offers 90gb will offer 250gb from July 1.”
“MTN a 10% increase in all data bundles currently offered by the network. I’m pleased to announce the restoration of the 399gh which currently has been changed to the 350gh bundle which offers 92.88gb will henceforth reinstated into 214gb for 399gh. I’m aware this increases are going to come at considerable cost to the network operators but I’m glad our engagements and the consultations are bearing fruits for the Ghanaian people.”
