The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) says it continues to receive no allocation from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), despite a provision in law for funding from the source.
Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale disclosed this when he addressed the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House today, Wednesday, October 21, describing the situation as a financial challenge affecting the Agency’s ability to expand its employment interventions.
He cited Section 23(c) of the Youth Employment Agency Act, 2015 (Act 887), which provides for an allocation of 10% of the Common Fund to the Agency, subject to a formula approved by Parliament.
“Unfortunately, the Agency continues to record zero allocation from this important funding source,” Mr Basintale said.
He explained that the absence of funding from the DACF placed additional pressure on the Agency’s existing resources and limited its capacity to expand programmes, particularly at the district and community levels.
“This situation undoubtedly places additional pressure on our already constrained resources and limits our capacity to expand employment interventions, particularly at the district and community levels,” he said.
Mr Basintale appealed for renewed consideration of the statutory funding arrangement, while acknowledging competing demands on public finances and the Government’s broader commitment to fiscal discipline.
He said improved access to funding would help the YEA discharge its mandate more effectively and create additional employment opportunities for young Ghanaians.
