Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced the release of the third-quarter allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
Mr Ato Forson made the announcement during his first stop in Tamale, where he met Regional Ministers, MMDCEs and Coordinating Directors to discuss measures to strengthen financial accountability across the MMDAs.
According to the Finance Minister, the release of the third-quarter DACF means government has now paid allocations for all three quarters of the year.
He described the development as a significant shift from previous years and said it demonstrated government’s commitment to ensuring timely releases of funds to local authorities.
The Finance Minister said regular and predictable disbursement of the DACF was critical to enabling MMDAs to effectively implement development programmes and improve local governance.
The engagement in Tamale also focused on strengthening financial management and accountability at the local government level.
Mr Ato Forson said government would continue to work with Regional Ministers, MMDCEs and Coordinating Directors to ensure that public resources were managed efficiently and used for their intended purposes.
He said the timely release of the DACF formed part of broader efforts to strengthen local governance and improve the delivery of development initiatives at the grassroots.
