The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has taken its campaign for improved access to specialised healthcare to communities in the Central Region, highlighting its interventions to ease the financial burden of serious illnesses.
The Fund shared the story of a young woman whose mother’s cancer diagnosis plunged the family into fear and uncertainty as they struggled to raise money to cover the cost of treatment.
According to the GMTF, its intervention helped the family overcome the immediate financial difficulty and restored hope at a time when the medical condition had placed significant pressure on them.
The Fund said the story reflects the broader challenge facing families across Ghana when confronted with serious illnesses, particularly conditions that require expensive and specialised treatment.
The GMTF is using its community engagements to raise awareness of its mandate and encourage partnerships aimed at improving access to specialised healthcare.
Beyond providing financial assistance to eligible patients, the Fund said it is supporting the equipping of hospitals, strengthening specialised healthcare services and helping bring life-saving treatment closer to communities.
The GMTF stressed that behind every diagnosis is a patient and behind every patient is a family that also needs support.
It said no family should be forced to lose its savings, property or future simply because a loved one has been diagnosed with a serious illness.
The Fund said its ongoing engagements across the country are therefore aimed at bringing its message and interventions closer to the people.
“From cancer despair to hope,” the GMTF said, reaffirming its commitment to its message: “Truly, We Care.”
