Tullow begins supplying Jubilee, TEN crude to Ghanaian refineries

Tullow Oil has begun supplying crude produced from Ghana’s Jubilee and Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme (TEN) fields to refineries in the country, marking a significant step towards linking domestic oil production with local refining.

The company’s Chief Financial Officer, Richard Miller, said the first cargo under the new arrangement was sold earlier this year to Sentuo Oil Refinery.

Mr Miller disclosed this during a virtual engagement with investors following Tullow’s half-year results, in response to questions on efforts to increase the volume of Jubilee crude processed locally.

He described the development as a major milestone for Ghana’s oil industry, particularly against the backdrop of longstanding challenges in making locally produced crude available to domestic refineries.

“This is a fantastic achievement looking at what has happened in Ghana’s oil sector over the years,” he said.

According to Mr Miller, the transaction was completed on purely commercial terms, with mechanisms also put in place to facilitate a favourable financing package for the initiative.

He commended the government for measures aimed at improving the operations of Ghanaian refineries, saying the development represented an important step in strengthening the country’s downstream petroleum sector.

Mr Miller also highlighted the growing role of Sentuo Oil Refinery as a buyer of Ghanaian crude.

“Sentuo Oil has become one of the prolific buyers of crude not only from Tullow Oil alone but also from other partners on Ghana’s oil fields,” he said.

Tullow targets 14 crude cargoes in 2026

The development comes as Tullow projects an increase in its crude liftings for 2026.

In its half-year results, the company said it expects to lift 14 cargoes during the year, comprising 11 cargoes from the Jubilee field and three from the TEN fields.

The revised projection is two Jubilee cargoes higher than the company’s initial guidance issued in November 2025.

Tullow lifted six cargoes during the first half of 2026 and plans to lift a further eight cargoes in the second half of the year.

The company also expects measures being implemented to improve its operational and financial performance to contribute to a stronger turnaround by the end of the year.

The sale of Jubilee and TEN crude to local refineries gives Tullow an additional commercial outlet for Ghanaian crude while supporting efforts to expand domestic refining capacity.

The arrangement also strengthens the connection between Ghana’s upstream oil production and downstream petroleum industry, helping bridge the gap between crude produced locally and petroleum products refined within the country.
