A total of 397 Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and health centres have been completed across the country under projects being implemented by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, Local Government Minister Mahama Ayariga has disclosed.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House on Monday, October 5, Mr Ayariga said the projects formed part of government’s effort to translate increased District Assemblies Common Fund allocations into tangible development at the local level.
He said 502 out of 761 classroom blocks had also been completed, alongside 3,081 mechanised and hand-pump boreholes out of a targeted 4,029. In addition, 97 of 134 Small Town Water Projects had been completed.
“These are tangible capital that empowers the Assemblies to establish educational institutions, develop healthcare facilities, implement water supply systems, establish sanitation infrastructure, and finalise incomplete development projects,” he said.
Mr Ayariga said several sanitation-related facilities were also either completed or ongoing, adding that the scale of projects demonstrated the government’s commitment to ensuring that decentralisation produces visible improvements in communities.
