Ghanaians can now request HIV self-test kits online under a new initiative by the Ghana HIV/AIDS Network (GHANET) aimed at expanding access to HIV testing and early diagnosis.
The HIV Self-Test (HIVST) online system, which went live on October 1, 2026, allows users to confidentially request test kits and access information on HIV prevention, treatment, counselling and testing.
The platform also provides directions to more than 700 Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) centres across the country.
GHANET said the kits are free, although users may pay a nominal delivery fee depending on their location. Corporate organisations can also request kits for their employees.
The initiative was developed with technical support from the Ghana AIDS Commission, National AIDS/STI Control Programme, UNAIDS, World Health Organization and Abbott Rapid Diagnostics, under the auspices of the Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Health and the Global Fund.
GHANET said the initiative is needed as Ghana continues to fall short of the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets. Data from the Ghana AIDS Commission shows the country achieved 70-81-92 in 2025.
An estimated 337,435 people were living with HIV, with 101,292 reportedly unaware of their status.
GHANET President Ernest Amoabeng Ortsin urged the public to take advantage of available testing services.
“We, therefore, encourage all and sundry to test and know their status, bearing in mind that early detection and initiation on treatment save lives,” he said.
GHANET said Ghana recorded 13,951 new HIV infections and 12,051 AIDS-related deaths in 2025. Over the previous five years, the country recorded 80,766 new infections and 65,114 AIDS-related deaths.
