The government has increased the producer price of cocoa from GH¢41,392 to GH¢42,400 per tonne for the 2026/2027 cocoa season.
The new price represents 71.18% of the realised gross Free on Board (FOB) value and translates into GH¢2,650 per 64-kilogramme bag of cocoa, effective Friday, September 25, 2026.
Speaking at a media briefing, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Randy Abbey, said the new producer price had been agreed by COCOBOD and key stakeholders under the new Cocoa Board Act.
Dr. Abbey said the adjustment followed consultations involving the Minister of Finance, cocoa farmers, the Chamber of Cocoa Marketing Companies, licensed buying companies and processors.
“that the producer price of cocoa the increase from 41,392 Ghana cedis per ton to 42,400 Ghana cedis per ton for the 2026-2027 cocoa season. This represents 71.18 percent of the realized gross F.O.B. gross not net F.O.B. and translates into 2,650 Ghana cedis per 64 kilogram bag of cocoa effective today Friday the 25th of September 2026,” he said.
He further explained that the new price replaces the GH¢41,392 per tonne paid during the 2025/2026 season.
“cocoa board and all the key stakeholders has enshrined in the new cocoa board act and here I refer to the minister of finance the farmers and then we have a chamber of cocoa marketers that comprises of licensed buying companies polio and processes we have approved that the producer price of cocoa be increased from 41,392 cedis per ton which was for the 25-26 season to 42,400 cedis per ton for the 26 2026-2027 cocoa season,” he stated.
According to Dr. Abbey, the new price also translates into GH¢2,650 for every 64kg bag of cocoa purchased from farmers.
“This represents 71.18 percent of the realized gross free on board F.O.B. and translates into 2,650 Ghana cedis per 64 kilogram bag of cocoa effective today Friday the 25th of September 2026,” he added.
Beyond the increase in the producer price, Dr. Abbey said COCOBOD would continue implementing programmes aimed at improving productivity and reducing the production burden on farmers.
The producer price is the amount paid to cocoa farmers for their beans and is reviewed as part of Ghana’s cocoa pricing arrangements. The new price of GH¢42,400 per tonne takes effect from September 25, 2026, for the 2026/2027 cocoa season.
