President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the US$1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project in Accra.
The mixed-use development, located within the airport enclave, is expected to transform the area with a combination of residential, hospitality, commercial, healthcare and leisure facilities.
The project will comprise about 582 premium apartments, a hotel, a 2,500-capacity conference facility, healthcare services, a modern shopping mall, landscaped gardens and 503 parking bays.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, President Mahama said the location of the project made its development particularly important to Ghana’s image.
“We must develop this important gateway in a coordinated manner that improves the experience of residents, travellers and investors, while enhancing Accra’s standing as a modern, competitive African capital city,” he said.
He said the project’s importance should be measured not only by the infrastructure it delivers but also by the employment and business opportunities it creates.
President Mahama said the development would also strengthen Accra’s tourism and hospitality sectors by increasing accommodation, conferencing, healthcare and retail services.
He commended Sentuo Group and its Executive Chairman, Xu Ningquan, for advancing the project and urged the developers to work with Ghanaian businesses.
“The scale of the proposal carries a responsibility to deliver well, work with Ghanaian partners and build facilities that serve their users and the surrounding community for many years.”
The President expressed confidence that the project would contribute to Accra’s emergence as a destination for business, tourism and international conferences.
