A delegation from Namibia’s Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy has visited the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to study Ghana’s gold trading and regulatory framework.

The visit formed part of a benchmarking and consultation mission aimed at gaining insights into Ghana’s approach to regulating and managing the gold sector.

The delegation was received by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Richard Nunekpeku, who led discussions on the institution’s mandate, structure and operational framework.

Key areas discussed during the engagement included licensing and regulation, gold purchasing and sales, responsible mining and sustainability, financial management, foreign exchange generation, as well as compliance and enforcement.

The Namibian delegation described the GoldBod model as a robust framework that could provide valuable lessons as Namibia works to improve standardisation and efficiency within its mining sector.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange knowledge and experiences on the management and regulation of the gold industry.

The visit is expected to contribute to stronger institutional cooperation and knowledge-sharing between Ghana and Namibia, particularly in the area of mineral resource governance.
