The Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (O’Sec Tech) in the Ashanti Region , Abdullai Zakaria, is receiving emergency medical care after he was allegedly attacked by students following rumours that he buried a newborn baby on the school premises.
Mr. Zakaria sustained serious head injuries during the incident, which reportedly involved the use of cutlasses by some students.
He was initially taken to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital in Obuasi for treatment before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for further medical attention.
The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive and Chairperson of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), Faustilove Appiah Kannin, confirmed the incident during an interview with the media.
She said the headmaster suffered deep lacerations to his head as a result of the attack.
According to the MCE, the Municipal Security Council is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting to assess the situation and determine the next steps following the violence.
She explained that authorities are awaiting a detailed briefing on the circumstances that led to the attack, adding that the outcome of the meeting will guide decisions on whether the school should be temporarily closed.
Meanwhile, armed police officers have been deployed to the school to restore calm, secure the campus and prevent any further escalation.
The police have commenced investigations into both the allegations surrounding the reported burial of a newborn and the assault on the headmaster.
