President John Dramani Mahama, Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has fulfilled a pledge to the immediate past Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General Thomas Oppong-Peprah (Rtd), and former Service Commanders by presenting each of them with a Toyota Land Cruiser.
The presentation follows the withdrawal of armoured vehicles that had previously been allocated to the retired military chiefs as part of their retirement benefits.
The gesture honours a commitment made by President Mahama to ensure that the retired senior military officers received suitable replacement vehicles following the policy change regarding the use of armoured vehicles after retirement.
The beneficiaries include the immediate past Chief of the Defence Staff and former Service Commanders who served at the highest levels of the Ghana Armed Forces and played key roles in safeguarding the country’s security and defence interests during their tenure.
The presentation underscores the government’s recognition of the dedicated service and sacrifices of senior military officers, while reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of personnel who have served the nation with distinction.
President Mahama noted that supporting retired service chiefs remains an important aspect of acknowledging their contributions to national peace, security, and stability.
