The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled the Paramount Chief of Kenyasi No. 2, Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, over alleged violations of Asante customs and traditions.
The decision ends one of the longest traditional reigns in the history of Asanteman.
Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, who ascended the stool in 1937, was widely regarded as the longest-serving Paramount Chief in Asanteman, having occupied the stool for an extraordinary 89 years.
In a related decision, the Asantehene also destooled nearly all the kingmakers of Kenyasi No. 2 after they were found to have breached their oath of office.
The simultaneous removal of the Paramount Chief and the kingmakers marks a significant development in the traditional leadership of Kenyasi No. 2 and brings to a close a historic chieftaincy era.
The alleged breaches of Asante customs and traditions formed the basis for the Asantehene’s decision.
