Management of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) led by its Managing Director, Edmund Kombat, has inspected a shipment of one million barrels of Ghana’s indigenous Jubilee Medium Sweet Crude delivered aboard the MT Apache at the Delta Anchorage, approximately 45 nautical miles offshore.

The crude cargo arrived on July 15, 2026, marking a significant step in ongoing efforts to revive and strengthen Ghana’s refining industry through the processing of locally produced crude oil.

The inspection exercise, undertaken by the refinery’s management team, forms part of preparations towards refining the crude at the state-owned facility as it works to restore operations and enhance domestic petroleum production capacity.

The delivery of the Jubilee crude is expected to support government’s broader objective of reducing dependence on imported refined petroleum products while improving energy security and creating value within Ghana’s petroleum sector.

Management of TOR expressed optimism about the refinery’s revitalisation efforts and acknowledged the role of government in supporting the turnaround strategy for the country’s only oil refinery.

The refinery also commended President John Dramani Mahama for what it described as his visionary leadership and commitment to restoring and revitalising Ghana’s refining industry.

Industry observers view the processing of locally produced crude at TOR as a major milestone in efforts to reposition the refinery as a key player in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector and the wider West African energy market.
