The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects, including an alleged gang leader, in connection with the robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea football team that resulted in the death of one of its players.
In a police update, authorities confirmed that the arrests were made following intelligence-led operations after the incident, which occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2026, along the Bibiani–Goaso highway in the Ahafo Region.
“Police have arrested the gang leader and one other suspect in connection with the robbery incident that led to the death of a Berekum Chelsea footballer,” the statement said.
According to the police, one of the suspects sustained injuries during an exchange of fire with an intelligence team and has since been transported to a hospital for medical attention.

Police say investigations are ongoing, with assurances that more details will be communicated as the case develops.
The attack occurred when the team was returning from a Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex 1996 in Samreboi, where they had lost 1–0. Armed men reportedly ambushed the team bus, opening fire and forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes.
One of the players, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head, later died at the Bibiani Government Hospital.
Police have reiterated their commitment to pursuing all individuals connected to the attack and ensuring they are brought to justice.
