One person has been killed after the Ghana Police Service foiled a planned robbery attack along the Ejura–Nkoranza highway in the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on April 9, 2026, when a police team acting on intelligence moved to a bush near Mimenaso No. 2, where a six-member gang was reportedly preparing to ambush commuters.
According to Police, the suspects opened fire upon seeing the team, mistaking them for potential victims.
“As the Police team approached the location, the suspects, mistaking them for potential targets, opened fire,” the statement said.
The officers returned fire, killing one suspect, while the others, including the alleged leader, fled the scene.
A pump-action gun, live and spent cartridges, as well as mobile phones were retrieved during the operation.
The deceased has been deposited at the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue, while a manhunt is underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
