Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu has disclosed that the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) are expected to be released by July 31.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 20, 2026, Mr. Iddrisu said information available to him from the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) indicates that candidates could receive their results before the end of the month.

“In fact, as I’ve always indicated as minister, I don’t interfere with the work of assessment institutions of WIAC. It is within their domain. But I’m reliably informed by the Director General of GES that on or before 31st of July, the BECA resource may be released,” he said.

The expected release of the results will pave the way for candidates to begin the process of selecting senior high schools under changes being introduced to the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

Mr. Iddrisu said candidates will this year make their choice of senior high schools after their BECE results have been released, allowing them to select schools based on their performance.

“And we have requested that into this year, BEC students would only make a determination of their choice of school after the results are declared,” he said.

According to the Minister, the government is also reviewing the school placement system to improve transparency and ensure that placements are based on merit rather than favouritism or political influence.

“Does it respect merit? And is it done on the basis of favoritism and politicians taking advantage of it to reward protocol and not merit? That is being corrected. And we intend to run an open, transparent placement system,” he stated.

The Education Minister acknowledged that inadequate infrastructure remains a major challenge in placing students in their preferred schools, but said ongoing investments in secondary education infrastructure are expected to ease the pressure.

He appealed for more time to address the persistent placement challenges, indicating that the government is working to expand classrooms and other facilities in schools across the country.
