News coming from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is that 11 people have been confirmed dead and 13 others injured in the multiple-vehicle crash on the Ofankor-Pokuase stretch.
The accident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, between the Ofankor Barrier and the John Teye enclave.
The GNFS said 24 people were involved in the crash, which involved seven vehicles – two tipper trucks, two Sprinter buses, two saloon cars and a tricycle.
The 13 injured victims have been conveyed to the Achimota Hospital for medical attention.
Rescue teams from the Amasaman Fire Station and the GNFS headquarters were deployed to the scene to assist with the rescue operation.
The Service said investigations are underway to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.
The incident has also caused significant traffic disruption along the Ofankor-Pokuase stretch as emergency operations continue.
