Motorists across Ghana will face increased automated traffic enforcement from October 1, 2026, when the Ghana Police Service fully implements TRAFFITECH-GH. The programme will be rolled out through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).
It is designed to detect traffic offences using cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices. The Police Service said the system will support the enforcement of road traffic regulations while reducing indiscipline on the roads.
“TRAFFITECH-GH will use cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices to detect traffic offences and support the enforcement of road traffic regulations,” the Service said. Once an offence is detected, it will be reviewed before enforcement action is taken.
The Police Service will then issue an Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) to the vehicle owner or driver through SMS. The Service said, “Under the programme, detected offences will be reviewed and Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) issued to vehicle owners or drivers through SMS.”
The electronic notice will contain the offence committed and the prescribed fine. The new system is part of wider efforts to improve compliance with road traffic laws and regulations.
The Police Service said the programme is intended to address indiscipline among road users. It also wants TRAFFITECH-GH to contribute to safer roads and fewer road crashes.
The Service urged motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to comply with road traffic regulations and support the programme.
“The Service therefore urges all motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to comply with road traffic regulations and support the implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH to promote safer roads and reduce road traffic crashes and casualties.”
The full implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH begins on October 1, 2026.
