The Director of Agribusiness Development at the Presidency, Dr Peter Boamah Otokonor, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector through increased production, export diversification and improved food security.
Dr Otokonor made the remarks when he joined the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Kwadwo Agyekum, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and other dignitaries at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Ghana Horticulture Expo at The Palms, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, last Thursday.
Addressing participants at the event, Dr Otokonor reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to leveraging agriculture as a key driver of Ghana’s economic transformation and human development.
He said the government’s agricultural agenda goes beyond increasing domestic production, stressing the need to diversify the country’s export base and position Ghana to take greater advantage of opportunities in the global horticultural market.
According to him, strengthening food security remains a critical component of the government’s development agenda, given its importance to sustainable economic growth and improved livelihoods.
Dr Otokonor further emphasised the need for stronger support for agribusiness and value-chain development to create jobs, enhance incomes and increase the contribution of agriculture to the national economy.
The Ghana Horticulture Expo brought together key stakeholders from the agricultural sector, including policymakers, producers, agribusinesses and other industry players, to showcase opportunities and promote investment in Ghana’s horticulture industry.
The event also provided a platform for stakeholders to explore ways of strengthening the sector and expanding Ghana’s presence in international markets.
