The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed its National Disciplinary Committee to complete investigations into petitions filed against former Assin Central MP and former presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong within two weeks.
National Organiser of the party, Henry Nana Boakye, said the petitions were first received by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and subsequently referred to the disciplinary committee in accordance with the party’s constitution and internal procedures.
He explained that the decision was later endorsed by the National Council, which has mandated the committee, chaired by former Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta, to conclude its work and submit its findings within the stipulated timeframe.
According to him, the committee’s report will be presented to the National Council, which will take final decisions on the matter, including any possible sanctions.
Mr. Boakye declined to speculate on the outcome of the process, stressing that it would be inappropriate to pre-empt the committee’s work.
“The right constitutional and procedural process is being followed,” he said in an interview on Joy News, adding that the National Council, as the party’s second-highest decision-making body, will deliberate on the report once it is submitted.
The development comes amid reported tensions within the party, following a National Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday, during which confrontations allegedly broke out outside the venue.
Some supporters were seen chanting “Ken Must Go,” in apparent reference to Mr. Agyapong.
The unrest is believed to be linked to recent comments by the former presidential aspirant, who criticised the party’s leadership over the handling of the Afari Military Hospital project.
The disciplinary committee is expected to present its report to the National Council within two weeks.
