The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) has called on all National Service Personnel across the country to actively participate in the National General Cleaning Exercise scheduled for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The call follows a directive from the Presidency declaring the two days as National General Cleaning Days as part of efforts to improve sanitation and address environmental challenges, particularly in flood-affected communities.
In a communiqué issued by the leadership of NASPA, the Association encouraged service personnel to take part in the exercise within their respective regions, districts, municipalities, institutions and communities of service.
According to the Association, the nationwide exercise is aimed at cleaning public spaces, desilting choked drains, removing refuse and reducing sanitation-related risks that have contributed to flooding and public health concerns in several parts of the country.
NASPA noted that as young people serving the nation, National Service Personnel have a responsibility to demonstrate patriotism, discipline and commitment to national development through active participation in community initiatives.
The Association further urged Regional, District and Municipal executives to collaborate with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, security agencies, institutional heads and waste management authorities to ensure effective mobilisation and coordination of personnel for the exercise.
Service personnel have also been encouraged to make themselves available for the exercise, bring along cleaning tools where possible and cooperate fully with the coordinating authorities.
The communiqué concluded with a call on all members to contribute meaningfully to the exercise in support of efforts to promote sanitation and save lives.
The statement was jointly signed by NASPA leaders Abdul Wahab Bala Mohammed, Martin Suguruma Jatong Konlan and Jesse Wisdom Asafo.
