Calls are growing for the immediate release of Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Hon. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
The call, captured in the slogan “FREE HON. BAFFOUR AWUAH NOW!”, comes amid concerns over the circumstances surrounding his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over financial loss and money laundering.
Supporters and concerned groups are demanding that the MP be released, stressing the need for due process and respect for his rights.
The development follows an earlier controversy over an attempted arrest of Hon. Baffour Awuah at the High Court in Accra, which drew concern from sections of the legal profession.
The Ghana Bar Association had expressed concern over the incident, particularly because of the circumstances in which the arrest was reportedly attempted while the MP, who is also a lawyer, was at the court.
The latest calls for his release are expected to add to the public discussion surrounding the case and the treatment of the legislator.
Authorities have yet to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the current demand for his release.
