Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called for stronger economic cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom, emphasising the need for bilateral partnerships to deliver tangible benefits for citizens and support the country’s development priorities.

She made the remarks following an engagement with the British High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Christian Rogg, during which they discussed trade, investment, enterprise development and sustainable job creation.
In a statement on the meeting, the Vice President said Ghana and the UK must assess their longstanding relationship by the opportunities it creates for their people and its contribution to national development.

“Ghana and the United Kingdom share a longstanding relationship, but we must increasingly measure the strength of that partnership by the opportunities it creates for our people and its contribution to our development priorities,” she said.
The discussions focused on strengthening economic ties and identifying ways to expand opportunities for Ghanaian businesses in value addition and international markets.
Opoku-Agyemang also highlighted the need for Ghana to adapt its bilateral and multilateral partnerships to changing global conditions, while ensuring that cooperation between the two countries supports local enterprise and creates sustainable employment.

Beyond economic cooperation, the meeting addressed gender equity and women’s empowerment, including Ghana’s efforts to strengthen the legal framework for women’s participation in public and economic life.
The Vice President referenced the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Regulations and stressed the importance of effective implementation to ensure that policy commitments translate into measurable improvements in people’s lives.

The two sides also discussed Ghana’s growing population and the importance of equipping young people with skills that match the country’s economic needs.
Opoku-Agyemang expressed appreciation to the British High Commissioner for the engagement and reaffirmed her office’s commitment to supporting practical cooperation that benefits both countries.
She said her office remained ready to facilitate mutually beneficial collaboration aimed at producing meaningful outcomes for Ghana and the UK.
