Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, an aspiring National First Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to file his nomination papers on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, as he formally advances his bid for the position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The filing will be accompanied by an event dubbed “Walk with Shaykh”, which is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday with supporters marching to the party’s headquarters in Assylum Down.
Supporters and party sympathisers are expected to converge at the Nima Roundabout in the Greater Accra Region, which has been designated as the starting point for the procession.
The exercise will mark a significant step in Dr Abdul-Hamid’s campaign to become the party’s First Vice Chairman as the NPP begins preparations towards the 2028 elections.
His candidacy is expected to contribute to discussions within the party over its leadership, organisation and strategy as he seeks to strengthen the party’s structures ahead of the next general elections.
The “Walk with Shaykh” initiative is also expected to provide an opportunity for supporters to accompany Dr Abdul-Hamid as he submits his nomination and formally confirms his intention to contest the position.
