The House is scheduled to commence proceedings at noon at Parliament House in Accra and will sit until Friday, August 28.
Speaker Bagbin issued the recall notice on August 12, directing MPs to return from recess for the five-day special sitting.
Parliament is set to sit today, Monday, August 24, 2026, following a recall of Members of Parliament (MPs) by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, for a special sitting to consider urgent parliamentary business.
Parliament had adjourned sine die on July 31, 2026, with MPs initially expected to remain on recess until October.
The recall was made pursuant to Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which empowers the Speaker to summon the House during recess to consider urgent business.
During the special sitting, Parliament is expected to consider several pressing matters, including ministerial nominations and nominations to the Supreme Court.
The House is also expected to consider proposed amendments relating to LGBTQ+ legislation, as well as a number of financial matters requiring parliamentary approval.
Today’s sitting comes less than a month after Parliament adjourned and signals an early return to legislative business as the House tackles matters considered too urgent to await the next regular sitting.
MPs are therefore expected to report to the Chamber from today for the commencement of the special sitting.
